Class Descriptions

  • Parent-Tot (30 min)

    Does your toddler love to dance? Dance, sing and play with your little one during this exciting half hour class! Parent-tot is a creative movement class for toddlers 1-3 years old. Perfect for the child who still needs a little more time before separating from their caregivers. Parents will participate actively in the class as children learn basic dance steps and terminology through songs, stories, and play.

  • Ballet I, Tap I, Jazz I (30 min)

    These are beginner classes geared to 3-5 year olds meant to teach the fundamentals of ballet, tap, and jazz. Children will learn basic movement and terminology through fun songs, activities, and games. All students involved in these classes will perform in a Christmas performance and the End-of-Year Showcase.

  • Ballet II (1 hr)

    These ballet classes will be divided into levels based on ability and will be open to students 6 and up. Beginning level classes focus on the basics of ballet including proper placement and posture; body positions, plies, tendus, battements, and port de bras. Emphasis will be placed on understanding technique, as well as instilling an appreciation and enjoyment of the movement. Advanced levels are a continual study of fundamentals, extended to emotional expression and precision, as well as developing fluid artistic control. Ballet is the basis of all other dance forms and can strongly enhance any athletic activity. We STRONGLY encourage that ballet be taken in conjunction with any other dance class. All students involved in these classes will perform in a Christmas performance and the End-of-Year Showcase.

  • Tap II(1 hr)

    These tap classes will be divided into levels based on ability and will be open to students 6 and up. Beginning level classes focus on learning basic rhythm patterns starting with simple combinations that include shuffles, flaps, stomps, riffs, pullbacks, etc. Advanced levels combine these in more complex rhythm and mixed meter combinations enabling students to slide easily between the styles of such performers as Fred Astaire, Bill “Bo Jangles” Robinson, Gene Kelly, Honi Coles and Savion Glover. All levels emphasize clarity of rhythm and sound, and the development of style through the use of the whole body. All students involved in these classes will perform in a Christmas performance and the End-of-Year Showcase.

  • Jazz II (1 hr)

    These jazz classes will be divided into levels based on ability and will be open to students 6 and up. Jazz is a fundamental dance form that compliments all other dance forms. Jazz classes are comprised of a warm-up, centre work and progressions including jumps and turns with a heavy imphasis on technique. Students will learn jazz steps, progressive skills and jazz combinations. All students involved in these classes will perform in a Christmas performance and the End-of-Year Showcase.

  • Musical Theater (1hr)

    Musical theater is a theatrical dance style that includes dancing and acting to songs from Broadway musicals. Students will learn basics of acting, character development while dancing, and using movement to tell a story. All students involved in these classes will perform in a Christmas performance and the End-of-Year Showcase.

  • Contemporary (1hr)

    Contemporary is an expressive form of dance in which we explore the movement of the body and the expression of emotion through dance and the elements around us. We aim to educate our students on multiple professional techniques and encourage them to express their own creativity and grow their movement vocabulary through the use of improvisation. We will focus on spacial and body awareness, use of body weight, floor work, leaps, turns, efficiency of muscle usage, and safe body alignment. All students involved in these classes will perform in a Christmas performance and the End-of-Year Showcase.
